For therapists — supervision, talks, and room rental
This page provides information on therapy supervision, talks, and room rental for therapists and members of related professions.
Therapy supervision

I offer supervision to counsellors, psychotherapists, and members of related professions — both qualified practitioners and those in training.
My approach to supervision is shaped by a psychoanalytic and Lacanian orientation. I am less interested in transmitting knowledge or monitoring competence than in creating a space where you can give an account of your work — what you are doing, and why — and where that account can be genuinely questioned.
I take seriously what Leader identifies in his 2010 paper: that supervision is not a pedagogic procedure to be administered from one party to another, but a dynamic relation in which the effects of speech and the unconscious are as present as they are in clinical work itself. (Darian Leader, ‘Some Thoughts on Supervision’ (2010), British Journal of Psychotherapy, 26, pp.228-241.)
If you are looking for supervision with a practitioner experienced in psychoanalytic psychotherapy and Lacanian approaches, I am happy to have an initial conversation about whether we might work well together.
Therapy talks
I am also available to deliver talks, facilitate reading groups, and lead seminars and workshops for therapists, professional groups, and others with an interest in psychotherapy, art, and related fields. Recent and current titles include:
- On the Function of Phobia in Therapy
- There’s Nothing to Cure: Therapy as Rhetoric
- Freud’s Displacement, Lacan’s Metonymy, and Hockney’s paintings
- Repression with a Twist
- Transactional Analysis and Eric Berne’s Therapist-as-Martian
- Beyond Doubt: Hitchcock’s Suspicion

Therapy room rental

A therapy room in central Manchester (M2, by St Ann’s Square) is available to rent for one or two days per week on a monthly rolling basis, with one month’s notice to end.
This 27.3 sq m / 294 sq ft suite was created by opening two smaller rooms into one generous, flexible space. Both original north-facing windows have been retained, creating a wonderfully broad window frontage overlooking the domes of The Royal Exchange without the downsides of direct sun.
It would suit counsellors, psychotherapists, psychoanalysts, psychologists, and others whose work requires a quiet and well-situated space.
Included is use of The Hub, a space shared by tenants of The Exchange. This includes a lounge, kitchen facilities, and use of a bookable meeting room with WiFi and an AV screen.
Room rental includes The Hub
